Descrizione

Possono raggiungere i 26.4 cm di lunghezza totale. È una specie di piccole dimensioni, dal corpo profondo, a volte con una leggera gobba nucale. Hanno la mascella inferiore rigida, che si assottiglia verso una punta distale stretta e ipertrofica, ricoperta da una pelle spessa. La bocca sporgente non forma un tubo cilindrico. Spina dorsale lunga, 19-27% di SL. Le pinne anale e ventrale sono piuttosto lunghe, rispettivamente 19-24% e 18-21% di SL, con una lunghezza pettorale-ventrale piuttosto corta, 22-26% di SL. Il peduncolo caudale è profondo, 11-12% della lunghezza standard. Scaglie: 12-14 squame predorsali. Gli esemplari vivi sono piuttosto marrone verdastro scuro, il dorso è più scuro, con pinne solitamente verdastre. In alcol il colore di base è un marrone giallastro opaco, il dorso è più scuro. Diffusione

Africa: Lago Tana. Si trova soprattutto vicino a substrati rocciosi in acque profonde meno di 3 m (Rif. 35836 ). Si nutre di insetti adulti e macrofite. (Testo da: www.fishbase.se).
